The History

Sarah Vaughn, Pearl Bailey, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Jelly Role Morton and Louis Armstrong were just a few of the famous names who performed at the Club Bali at 14th and T, the Howard Theatre at 7th and T, the Lincoln Colonnade and the Crystal Caverns on U Street.
To experience something of this vibrant history today, you can take in a show at the Lincoln Theatre, restored to the gilded glory that inspired Jean Toomer to feature it in his celebrated Harlem renaissance novel, Cane.
